Bagan, more popularly known as the city of for million pagodas, consisting of temples, pagodas and religious edifices within an area of 42 sq. km (16 sq. miles) heads the list of the richest archaeological sites in the whole of Asia and second in the world.

This mysterious and enchanting city is on the eastern bank of the Ayeyarwaddy river and is about 193 km (120 miles) south of Mandalay. The majority of Bagan well-preserved shrines whose architectural beauty continues to offer a rich heritage to posterity were all built from 11th to 13th century. The undiminishing mystic splendodr of Bagan consists of well-preserved and magnificent temples such as ANANDA, SULAMUNI, THATBYINNYU, GAWDAWPALIN, SHWEZIGON and many others, not to speak of those in ruins.
